About Me
Two running themes so far in my life have been biking as well as deep-seated curiosity and interest in other cultures. This was to a large extent inspired by Youth for Understanding with which I spent one year as an exchange student in Ohio in 1993/94. During law school I headed abroad for another year to Vancouver / Canada to work and study at the University of British Columbia. After graduating law school at the University of Gießen, I worked at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and Public International Law for three years, before heading to Stanford Law School to pursue a master’s degree. I am currently working at a law firm in Brussels, but will take time out to finish my Ph.D. in the second half of 2007 in international law.
I’ve been biking somewhat seriously ever since I bought my first road bike at the age of 15. Later on I added a mountain bike to the collection. Before leaving Vancouver I decided to bike from Vancouver to Mexico in the summer of 1999 and have been hooked on touring biking ever since (e.g. in Iceland, New Zealand, the US and some places in Europe). Some pictures may be found on my flickr page.
After finishing the tour in December 2008, I have now relocated (once again) to Miami, where I have taken on a position as Associate Professor at the University of Miami School of Law.
